Knit for the Community
The Framework Knitters “Knit for Community” initiative began in April 2020 as a result of Covid-19 and the first lockdown. Thanks to members or friends of 37 Livery companies, as well as local publicity through local radio, TV (East Midlands Live October 2020, East Midlands Today news report November 2020, BBC Look North and BBC1 via the Lord Mayor’s Show), magazines and papers, over 640 individuals have so far volunteered to help us and over 47,000 squares have been donated. The project has helped both those in need and those knitting, and our volunteers include someone who is registered blind, as well as some suffering from illnesses which require them to keep their hands moving. We are very grateful to employees from Leicester Royal Infirmary, members of Rotary and Inner Wheel, knitting groups and members of the League of Remembrance – being 100% volunteer led we could not have had such a successful result without so much support. It has also provided a positive focus during isolation, and we hope to continue this for the first half of 2022 at least.
More information can be found on our Facebook page - including an instructional knitting video by Past Master Sheila Turner - and in the poster below.
Huge thanks to all our volunteers – this is only possible due to you - please keep knitting!
